About

Hello! I'm Duncan, an Oxford based tutor specialising in maths and physics. My journey into space science started at school, where a particularly brilliant physics teacher gave me the motivation to pursue my interests beyond the classroom. I completed my integrated master's degree at Exeter University in 2018, and I am now a postgraduate (DPhil) student at Oxford, researching Saturn's icy moons. I have decided to share my love for maths, physics, and all things space related through tutoring.

With a rich academic background and over 5 years of wide-ranging professional experience since my master's, I bring a unique perspective to my teaching. My approach is tailored to each student's individual learning style and needs. I believe that with the right motivation, everyone can maximise their potential in maths and physics. I focus on building confidence and making learning enjoyable and relatable. I aim to link the seemingly arbitrary concepts in your syllabus to real world uses from my own life, encouraging students to explore and question, fostering a deeper understanding and a real interest in their subject.

Beyond academia, I have a diverse range of interests including surfing, motorcycling, and salsa dancing. These hobbies not only keep me balanced but also enrich my teaching methods. I am excited to share my knowledge and experience and look forward to helping you, wherever you are in your educational journey!

Comments From Students and Parents

On top of revision I had worried that my daughter that having a tutor might be too much. On the contrary, Duncan is really adding so much to her revision and really making focusing on the work less stressful. I would definitely recommend him to anyone wanting a physics tutor. We are booking sessions ad hoc and that is going well too. He is extremely flexible and willing to book sessions when we need them.

Alison - Parent

I was nervous to begin with but Duncan was able to allow me to adapt and become more comfortable in high stress situations such as in exams. The work given to me was hard but I saw improvement with every subject we covered mainly due to Duncan's foresight on my weaker areas and provided work that developed those weaker areas of mine. I'm thankful and can say he is worth the price.

Llywelyn - Student

Having been so impressed with Duncan as an A level Physics tutor for my son I asked him to do a couple of GCSE sessions with my daughter just before she took her exams to go over a few areas she was struggling with. He clearly explained these and she was able go into the exam with a sound understanding. I would definitely recommend Duncan as a Physics tutor.
